"KVN" is an abbreviation of "Клуб весёлых и находчивых" ("Club of the Funny and Inventive People"), it is a Soviet and then Russian humour TV show and an international competition where teams (usually university students) compete by giving funny answers to questions and showing prepared sketches.
For more than 20 years TV broadcasts of KVN games receive the highest ratings in Russia. The popularity of the game is so high that even politicians use it as an opportunity to gain extra points, Boris Yeltsin, Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev attended games played before the elections.
Also, the president of the club, Alexander Maslyakov, received one of the highest (if not the highest) award from Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, for hosting the game for so many decades.

Translated from the Russian word telemost (literally, "TV bridge"), a space bridge was a public interactive television link between two or more geographically separate and culturally distinct locations, a form of public videoconference.
Phil Donahue and Vladimir Pozner hosted the meeting between the US and the USSR respectively. This event went down in the history of relations between the two countries as one of the first signs of warming in the Cold War, which ended with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

The channel therefore enjoyed tremendous popularity among Soviet students who waited excitedly for the 20-minute broadcast of music videos and ad units, which could also last up to 40 minutes without a break sometimes.

Vladislav Listyev was murdered
Vladislav Listyev — Soviet and Russian journalist and TV anchor, was head of the ORT TV Channel (now government-owned "Channel One").
On the evening of March 1, 1995, when returning from the live broadcast of his evening show "Chas Pik", Listyev was shot dead on the stairs of his apartment building. Valuables and a large sum in cash that Listyev had on him were left untouched, leading the investigators to conclude that the murder was either a political or business-related assassination. However, despite numerous claims made by investigators that the case was close to resolution, neither the gunmen, nor those who ordered the killing, were found.
The killing caused an enormous public outcry — ORT and several other Russian TV channels shut down for the whole day on March 2, displaying only a picture of Listyev and the words in Russian: "ВЛАДИСЛАВ ЛИСТЬЕВ УБИТ" ("'Vlad Listyev killed"). Days later, the channel was reorganized and after a number of different incarnations, came back as the government-controlled "Channel One" that Russian viewers are now familiar with.
Vlad Listyev was standing for the creation of public television and ban on television advertising. When Listyev put the middlemen advertising agencies out of business, he deprived many corrupt businessmen of a source for enormous profits. That is the main reason for his murder.

YouTube show "vDud"
In February 2017, Yury Dud launched a YouTube channel named "vDud", where he interviews Russian celebrities. His interviewees are musicians (mainly rappers), politicians, journalists, film directors, and business people. As of February 2020, the channel has over 6.68 million subscribers.
After the show was released, it became clear that television was losing ground. For modern celebrities, it's more important to be invited to an interview by Yuri than to be filmed in a TV show on the "Channel One". After an interview at "vDud" YouTube show, a person becomes famous throughout Russia.
Yuri also makes documentaries on important topics for Russian society. Some of them are "Kolyma - Birthplace of Our Fear" (under Joseph Stalin's rule, Kolyma became the most notorious region for the Gulag labor camps), "Beslan. Remember" (the Beslan school siege, also referred to as the Beslan school hostage crisis or Beslan massacre), "HIV in Russia".
